Debra Schultz
Christ Lutheran School
Zumbrota, MN
I'm originally from WI, but I've lived in MN for most of my life. Since my goal from childhood was to be a Wisconsin Synod Lutheran elementary school teacher, I attended our synod's preparatory high school (Martin Luther Academy) and college (Dr. Martin Luther College) in New Ulm, MN. Upon graduation from college, I was assigned to Christ Lutheran School, Zumbrota, MN, where I am now in my 27th year of teaching.
I've had various opportunities to teach elsewhere, but I'm very happy and satisfied with decision to remain in Zumbrota. The past 26 1/2 years have been happy, fulfilling, and certainly not boring. Currently, and for most of my teaching years, I have taught grades 3-5 in a combined, self-contained classroom. I also work with students of all ages in our school's and church's music programs. We've had computers in the classroom for many years, and since we've never had a paid "technology" staff person, I've also had to develop skills in that area.
Joann Wood Masters, Education
I received my Bachelors degree in Special Education from Buffalo State University in New York twelve years ago. Since then I have completed my Masters in Educational Research. Becoming a special education teacher was a dream come true for me. I always knew that teaching was what I wanted to do and realized through personal experience the challenges and great rewards of teaching students who learn differently. I made it my personal mission as a teacher to get to know each of my students personally and let them know they mattered to me.
I have always been a proponent of learning styles and have taught reading decoding using multi-sensory techniques. As a member of the Board of advsiors at WizardsSpell, I am able to contribute my theories and opinions on how to best incorporate these into the product. You can read more about my theories and research by clicking here.
I have been married for 4 years, and recently became a Mom, with the birth of my daughter Ella. This year I am spending home with her, 2 cats, and 2 dogs. Although it is hard to be away from all my friends and the job I love, I am enjoying watching her grow and change every day and can't wait to see how her future enfolds!
